Night market used to be fun but it's getting quite boring. It's the same stuff every year. I used to like it because I was so into those pretty stationary, used to buy like crazy. My friend had a zoom pass and she didn't want to waste it so we decided to go (thanks!). They increase the entrance fee every year, it's like $3.75 to get in now... Plus, the stuff inside night market is so expensive too. My friend said it may be the last year at this location but I saw a sign that say sign up for 2018?
When we got there, the line up wasn't that long, I guess it was more busy when they first opened? We didn't have to wait because we had the zoom pass. When we got in, it wasn't as crowded as it used to be.
I was mainly there because of the dessert. Woot! Dessert after dinner! It's my dessert diet day. There were 4 things I wanted to try and I found 3 out of the 4.
The main thing I wanted to try was the black sesame ice cream bao sandwich with active charcoal ($8) from Bao Bar Sweets. It looks pretty cool. I saw them take the mantou out from the deep fryer, they were all looking pretty shiny. Then they took this round black sesame ice cream out from this freezer. They topped it with condense milk(?) and I believe those are black and white sesame seeds(?) or was it active charcoal? I have no clue. When I got it the mantou was still warm and the ice cream was cold (I love that). The mantou was very crispy, the taste reminds me of the Chinese donuts (that oil taste). The ice cream had the black sesame taste but not very strong (for me). I really like it, I would get it again but it's quite expensive for such a tiny thing. I shall try to make it at home. =) I wish their mantou was bigger.
Then my friend got the churro (thanks for letting me try). I've always wanted to try churros but never got a chance. She got this fancy looking churro with green tea ice cream in a flamingo inflatable ($12) from Churro and Ice Cream. You can also add $1 and upgrade the inflatable to a umbrella or palm tree. I thought the palm tree looked nice. It's quite pricey. I tried to rip the churro apart and bits and pieces were falling off. It was super crispy and coated with sugar and cinnamon. The fried taste also reminds me of the Chinese donuts LOL! It was really good. The ice cream was a bit too milky taste to me, I didn't like it but my friend likes it. I'm not a milk person. I thought the froot loops tasted pretty good with the ice cream, gave it a tiny sweetness and crunch. Haven't had those since a little kid.
Then I got this butterfly pea flower drink in rose and thai style flavour in a "sharing cup" ($7) from Milk Cha. Their logo is so cute, so was one of the guy there (my friend said LOL!). I think we were getting high from all that sugar. I like how butterfly pea flower makes drinks into different coloured layers. I realized drinks made with that flower has a very light taste to the drink. I tried it at another place and it had no taste. Milk Cha has a sweetness to it so it was better. I thought thai style had a lighter thai tea taste, I do prefer something stronger when it comes to tea. The rose had a light and sweet taste to it, not too sure what rose is supposed to taste like. I liked the Thai tea more.
The last thing I wanted to try (more like take picture of) was the rose popsicle. I feel like it's gonna be really expensive for such a tiny thing. I should buy a mould and make it myself.
I liked all the stuff I tried, even better if I had dessert before dinner.
