Tako Review

I was searching around online to see what's good to try after class. I found Tako. It's like Korean and Mexican mixed together. It's like right outside of the Chinatown skytrain station so it's very convenient. When we got there it was ok busy (around 7pm), people were eating and some were lining up to order.

It would be nice if they had 2 cashier or another staff on the floor. The wait to order was a tiny bit long and we also wait for a bit for our food. My friend thought they should have another staff that can help out with clean up/cashier as well, people just leave their stuff there after they are done eating. They should know by now, the pay before you eat places, usually you self serve.

Anyways, I ordered the bulgogi tako poutine ($8.45) and my friend ordered a chicken burrito ($9.50). At first I thought my poutine would be tako chips instead of fries because of the name. Good thing it was fries because that's what I was craving for. I don't think I would be as happy if it was tako (nacho). You will know when I talk about my friend's.

The size wasn't that big for the price but then I guess it's normal since everywhere that sells poutine (except fast food) are around that price or more. I thought the taste was good, I didn't really taste any cheese which is good because I don't like cheese. I'm not sure if the white and yellow sauce were cheese or just sauce. The sauce had a tiny sour taste to it. I wanted it a tiny bit more salty, maybe I'm too used to the gravy taste? I was craving something really salty that day. They were good, it's just me. There weren't a lot of beef but then it's alright. Fries weren't crispy but had a soft center, the type of fries that I like. It was pretty good.

Now, the chicken burrito, my friend really liked it. There were kimchi rice, corn, cheese, chicken and lettuce. Not sure if there were others. There were only 3 choices of protein, beef, pork or ribs. My friend asked if they can use chicken and cashier asked the chefs and they said it's ok. She said by far it's the best burrito she has ever had. It didn't fall apart at all, not even once. It was mess free, she didn't have any sauce dripping and her hands were clean the whole time. She said it's unique, for sure kimchi taste (spicy). It has a crunch to it from the crispy chicken (I thought it was the veggie that gave the crunch) and normally burritos use ground meat. The burritos came with a few nachos and they had no taste to it. That's why I was happy they used fries and not nacho for my poutine. One thing my friend didn't like about her dish, she found a bad lettuce in there. Other than that she likes it.

I would come back again, I actually want to try their takos. Not sure how big but seems like an ok price.

There is one thing we don't like, their location. It's convenient but then there were a lot of homeless people there. There were a few of them asking for money outside the place. When we were eating, one of the homeless woman came in and started asking almost everyone for money. When we say we don't, she got so mad and starts swearing at the people or saying stuff at them. It's really scary, she went up to my friend and she got scared. I understand there isn't much that they can do to prevent that kind of things but I'm just saying. Maybe they should just open the cashier side door and not at the other end? There were security cameras but it's not gonna prevent them from coming in...
