I've always wanted to try 4 Stone but never had a chance. I heard my friend say one of our high school classmate's family owns the place. When I got there, I saw our classmate's older sister but not her. Anyways, there were 3 tables filed with people when I entered. (5:50pm ish)
I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for my friends (I was early), I heard their phone rang like 3 times. Seems busy. Service was good but from what I remembered, the older sister smiles a lot in high school, like randomly. I guess school and work are different?
As you can tell from their name, it's a vegetarian restaurant. I ordered the veggie chicken cutlet with noodle in soup ($12.99) and my friends got deep fried veggie salt and pepper chicken nugget ($9.99 ), fried bean curd rolls in black bean sauce ($12.99) and noodle in wonton soup ($11.99).
Veggie chicken cutlet, I don't know if I have been eating salty/ flavoured stuff a lot lately or what, I thought their food lack taste. Maybe it's the right taste for vegetarian? My veggie chicken cutlet looks super flat, I was expecting for it to look like an actual cutlet, thick looking. The texture wasn't like chicken but it's alright. Sometimes people say veggie meat taste like the actual meat or has a similar texture (that's the reason why I wanted to try this restaurant). The noodle was good, wasn't chewy but it was fine. It was mild spicy but my friend who can't eat anything spicy said it's really spicy...
Salt and pepper chicken nuggets, when the dish came I thought that was pretty small for the price, with that price you can also get a noodle with it at BBT restaurants. It looked somewhat close to the actual salt and pepper chicken but you can tell the difference. My friend thought it was pretty similar. It came with a peanut dipping sauce. I tried one with the sauce, it had a sour taste to it which I thought was strange. My friend said it's the sauce but why would peanut sauce be sour? Then my friend said she tried one of the nuggets and it had a sour taste to it too. Maybe it was the lime? No clue but that's weird.
Bean curd rolls, that combo wasn't bad, it came with rice (white or brown), soup, 3 side dishes (green veggie, fruits, and dried tofu?) and the bean curd rolls. My friend said it's not bad for the price. Although it said in black bean sauce, I didn't taste any sauce, maybe because it's on the top? If there were sauce taste, I think it's the best dish out of all the dishes we ordered. The texture was good. I asked my friend afterwards, she said there were more sauce on the bottom...
Wonton noodle, I tried one wonton, the filling taste more like dumplings to me than a wonton. My friend thought it's good. If it was a dumpling, yea, I think it's pretty similar, not bad but it was a wonton.
Sorry, I sound like I'm complaining about every dish, I'm just a picky eater. I think they are great and people should give it a try. I wouldn't go back because it's not really my thing but I think they are amazing at turning meat dishes into veggie meat dishes. If I do go back, I think I would try a sweet and sour veggie meat dish.
