I was looking around for a new place to try with my friends and decided to go to Dolpan. They are known for their Korean BBQ, duh. Lots of wood tables in there which I like. I like how they have those gas tank stools that you see in Korea and in K drama. If you don't know, you can put your bags/ clothes/ yourself (joking), whatever in it. It keeps your bags and clothes from all that BBQ smell.
When we got there it wasn't very busy and they were nice, we asked if it's ok if we sit at a table and wait for 2 other people that are coming a bit later, they said yes. As time goes by it got busier. The staff were so busy that they can't even take our order when we were ready.
Anyways, we ordered the Bulgogi Japchae ($19.50), Seafood & Green Onion Pancake ($18.95), and the beef + pork sampler set or something ($30 something for a large?). There were refillable side dishes. However, you have to ask for refills or they just take it away and assume you don't want anymore. When the japchae came, I was like...wow, pretty expensive for such little amount. I was expecting a bigger dish. Anyways, it was good, I always like japchae but hardly order it because it's always so expensive. It's only potatoe noodle with veggie...
Next, the seafood + green onion pancake, it came in an ok size. I thought it was thicker than other places I have tried, it felt doughy. I like it thinner because it gives that crispy texture, this didn't, well the edges did. It didn't have much taste but most places I've tried was similar so I guess it's normal? It does come with a sauce, so you can dip into it if it lacks flavour. The sauce had a tiny sourish taste to it, not spicy at all, if you were wondering. I personally don't like the green onions, I would like it more if it was cut smaller but I understand that's how it's made, even at other restaurants.
Last but not least, the BBQ. Most Korean BBQ, you have to cook the food yourself but there is no need for that here. The staff will cook the meat for you so just sit, eat and chill (heads up, the oil may spatter at you, watch out! They do cover the meat with wax paper or something but it still spat at our friend...). The portion was considered ok. There were 2 different types of beef and pork, not sure which part of the body. There were so much oil from those meat, the oil would drip down from the side to a little dish which collects it. The mushrooms and potatoe work as an "oil sucker", it sucks up the oil and my friend ate it...
I prefer the pork over the beef, it just taste better, maybe because I'm not really a beef person? For the beef, I preferred the thin fatty beef. The thicker one was harder to chew into. For the pork, I prefer the thinner one and not the pork belly (I love pork belly though), it had more taste to it. At first I was like it would be better if there was something to dip into because there weren't any seasoning on it, just eating the actually meat flavour. They were that busy that they didn't give us the sauce, they did afterwards. There were 3 types of dipping, salt, sweetish sauce, and a peanut sauce??? I didn't really have a preference on which was better.
Overall, I thought the noodle and pancake was a bit on the pricey side but the BBQ was ok. I don't think I would come back again, no particular reason. I do want to try their matcha pork belly but only if friends want to go again, if not, don't think I will.
