Off the Grid Waffle Review

My friend found this place and we have always been wanting to try but never had the chance. It's located on Kingsway, near Burnaby. As you can tell from the name, it's a waffle place. It's not a very big place. There were some people in there when we got in and it got busier after a bit. My friend thought the place would be prettier, I thought it was ok. I'm not sure but I think each table has a Jenga set for people to play with. I thought it was cool but then when it falls, it's quite loud.

Anyways, I ordered the cappuccino waffle shake ($7) and my friend got the strawberry nutella waffle cup ($5). Both were nicely presented.

The cappuccino shake, it had the cappuccino taste and it wasn't overly sweet to the point where my throat hurts. The shake felt thickish to stir but it was ok when drinking. The lady finger and waffle was a bit soggy from the drink, only the part that was touching it. Their waffle wasn't bad. It had a light buttery taste, a soft and tiny crispy texture and it taste ok on its own without any sauce/dipping. The cream on top had no taste, I thought it would be sweet or something but I guess it would make the drink overly sweet.

The strawberry nutella, I thought it looked like a fancy version of an ice cream sundae. My friend said it's just alright but their waffle is good. There were 3 pieces of waffles and a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with nutella sauce, sprinkles and strawberries on the side.

When we were enjoying our sweets we looked over to see how they made the shakes. I knew milkshake were made with ice cream but I didn't know you need that much ice cream... Guess how many scoops my drink had? 4 scoops. Don't worry, I'm not freaked out by it, I'm not one of those crazy health people. If I was I wouldn't even be eating out. "If you plan to do something, don't be scared. If you are scared then don't do it." 4 scoops may sound a lot but I eat a cup of ice cream at home sometimes, no biggie right? It's not like we eat that much everyday.

Overall, I thought it was pretty good. I think I would come back and try their pizza waffle but the place is far from home. I thought my shake was worth the price. You can't get 4 scoops of ice cream anywhere for $7 lol. Good thing I didn't eat breakfast, that was my brunch.

Oh, I wish their straw for the shake was harder/stronger, it was hard to stir because the straw felt kind of "weak".
