Hiro's Stew Review

I saw this place online and decided to go before boxing, no biggie. It's ok size and it was empty when we were there. There were take outs and some other people came in later.

The service was not bad, the girl was really nice.

When we got there, they still had their afternoon menu or happy hour. So we got the satay stew($10.99) and friend got the Japanese sake stew ($10.99).

The happy hour ones are a bit smaller in size compared to their normal $15.99 ones but I think it's a good size for one person. I wasn't full but it was enough, I guess because I ate all my rice. I think my satay wasn't satay at all. It was like a curry or something. It had a light coconut taste to it which I don't think satay has that. The chicken was nice and soft. There were a few types of veggie in it, I thought it would be nice if their pumpkin were softer. Their king oyster mushroom tasted kinda nasty to me, I just chewed and swallowed.

Their pickled radish was good, it helped me finish my bowl of rice.

I liked my friends sake stew more, it was more flavourful compared to the satay.

I don't know if I'll come back, I do want to try one of their black pepper stew but I'll see.

Crepe De Licious Review

It's my second time trying this place I think? There were a few flavours I wanted to try and couldn't decide. I tried this really dark chocolate one and it taste a bit bitter to me. I wanted green apple but I've tried that before. I really wanted pistachio but I don't see it. =(

At the end I got black sesame ($5 something) and friend got green apple.

I thought the black sesame was not bad, not too sweet and had the black sesame taste. At the end, there were tons of black dots on my lips.

The green apple was very green apple too, tangy.

I think I'll come back, I see that they have pistachio on their website so if I see it next time, I will try.

Banh Mi Tres Bon Review

It's my second time here, first time was just for the character macaron. This time, I'm really eating their food.

My friend got there early and stood there looking at menu. Then the owner or someone asked if we are taking out or eating here. We said eating here then she told us to take a seat and they will bring the menu to us. Okay? Should have told us that when we came in or something. There were so much people working there but when we were ready, no-one came to us.

Anyways, I ordered the beef noodle soup ($12) and friend got the house special banh mi ($8).

My noodle was alright. It's not as flavoured/salty compared to other places. They gave me a bone marrow, quite small compared to what you see on the picture and picture had 2 of them... There weren't a lot of beef or beef balls.

Friend said that the bun was dry but I believe it's like that because it's like French bread. The carrots and pickles had a sour taste to it.

Overall, it was ok but I don't think that noodle soup is worth the price. A bit over priced. For that price I expect a bit more beef. Not sure if I would come again, I may try their other food?

Tea Mo Review

I saw this place online and decided to come try. The pictures looked kinda nice. The place is very tiny, there are only like 3 tables in there. It's kinda dark in there.

Service was ok to me but my friend didn't like it. When we were paying my friend asked for change for $50, the guy thought she was paying the whole bill. I asked for pearls with my bubble tea but he forgot, maybe because my friend was asking him something and he forgot? I had to ask for pearls.

Anyways, I ordered the smoked salmon tamagoyaki ($7.99) and cantaloupe milk tea with pearls ($3). Friend ordered the daily special ($12.99, sushi and bubble tea).

My tamagoyaki was somewhat small for that price. It looked nice but not really what I expected. I thought it would be more like the tamago that Japan makes, the sweet thick egg that are on top of sushi. When I cut it open I thought it was still raw, I'm like...uh oh, I hate raw egg. When I tried it, guess what it is? It was something I don't like, cheese!!! How would I know there are cheese in it, it didn't say on the menu. If I was allergic, I'm dead now.

The taste to me was a bit bland, if it was the cheese and smoke salmon I think it would have no taste. The cheese was ok with the egg but by itself I can't handle it. The egg was nice and soft. I think the idea was very creative but totally not worth the price.

My friend's sushi, I thought they looked normal, it wasn't as pretty as the pictures. Pictures are always deceiving. Friend said "I had better".

The bubble tea was ok, I mean for $2.50, it's not bad. It had a light cantaloupe taste which was fine. I like their pearls, it's sweetened and chewy. I usually keep my bubble tea till the next day, most places, their pearls are stuck together or has a hard center the next day. This place didn't, it didn't stick together and it was still ok chewy, didn't have a super hard center. I kinda wish they would put more pearls in because that was my dinner and I have to live on it for the rest of the night (and morning).

Overall, I think their food is just ok but their bubble tea is not bad for the price. However, only certain flavours are $2.50, other special ones are a bit more pricey.

Bee Blu XXXIX

If you have been reading you should know how much I love my manager. Yes, I'm gonna use love because I teared quite a bit at our company dinner. The whole company dinner was pretty much about my manager which I like it because she deserves it! I've never cried in front of so many people before!!! Somewhat embarrassed but then I'm sure everyone at work knows I'm the baby. I worked with my manager more than anyone else in the company so can't blame me for being so emotional. I didn't say much because I would just ball even more and everything else I have already written on the card that I gave to her.

I think the company dinner would be more fun when my big boss and big big boss aren't there. It was still really fun. I laughed quite a bit and teared a lot. The stories that the guys were telling was so my manager. I was agreeing to them inside. I didn't want to tear and I knew this would happen. I was even crying when I wrote on the card. It just hurts when she has to retire. Well, I wish her all the best in her retirement life and I hope we can still keep in touch and maybe hang out sometimes or she can come visit us from time to time.

Okay, now my experience at the River Rock Casino Hotel. Thanks work for paying for it! My experience was not good at all. I wanted to shower and I had no clue how to get the water up to the shower head. I tired everything! I had to call front desk and ask. They said there is this ring on there, just pull it down. I'm like ok...…? So I looked everywhere for a ring, nothing. Then I deiced to pull this ring on the faucet part (I tried twisting it before...), OMG water coming out of the shower head. Like who the F made this design should just shot themselves on the toe, like seriously? Took me at least a good 15 minutes trying to figure it out!

I couldn't sleep all night! There were people walking and talking in the hall, like STFU! You can hear door opening and closing sound, like WTF? I've never had this at other hotels when I go on vacation. Then at 2am I hear someone knocking on my door saying something room service! Like seriously, who the F knocks at 2am? Person knocked twice, I ignored because I have no clue who that is and I was by myself. Then that person rang the bell!!! WTF!? So I had to open the door with the door guard lock on. He said "hi, fresh towels for you". I'm like "I didn't ask for any". He said "oh really? Front desk said you need it". I'm like"no...". He said "sorry about that". Well, that was one messed up front desk then!

My room was beside the skytrain, at night I can hear the train pass by. In the morning, I can hear it calling out "train to waterfront" or something, so loud! It was not a good experience at all!!! No, don't think I will come back again unless if it's free again.

AWW! That's just like Hun B. She would stay in the laundry room whining and crying while looking at her dolls all hung up after getting their wash. They are so cute!

I think it's a good idea but I also understand that not everyone has time to do that much exercise. But I thought it would be easier in Asia because people mainly walk to places. No clue.

Bobacabana Review

I saw this place online so decided to come try. It's not very big in there. It was quiet when we got in then got busy and died down when we were about to leave.

I got the halo halo snow cup ($6.25), they got the mango snow cup ($5.50) and the taro bubble tea with pearls.

My friend said the taro one taste very watered down. Taste like water with some taro flavour. He said the pearls are good though.

My halo halo was ok. The ice cream didn't have that normal taro/ube taste, it just had a milk ish taste. The caramel flan didn't really taste like those ones I've tried before, not much caramel taste to me. The red beans were good, they were sweet. Normally I don't get red bean in halo halo, they should use those beans. The snow ice were very tiny and smooth, I believe it's flavoured but can't tell. The bottom green jelly were sweet and had that taro/ube taste to it which I found interesting. Do those green jelly usually have that flavour?

It would be nice if this topped my halo halo up, it looks like a picture taken after someone took a bite. They should add some colour in between the snow ice so it will look prettier.

No, don't think I'll come again. It's quite far from home and I already tried what I wanted to try.

Steve's Poke Bar Review

Decided to give it a try. It's not very big there, there are like 4 tiny tables on the side.

It was really quiet when we got there and then it got busy and then it died down when we were about to leave.

Service was ok, the guy seems nicer. When I was paying he asked if I have any plans after. He looked not bad haha. Wanna go out some time? Lol! He asked a friend if the amount of rice is ok. The lady that helped me didn't ask.

Anyways I got the a shore thing. I got it with rice, I was gonna get quinoa but they didn't really name the choices, just asked if rice is ok. It had spicy mayo, corn, edmada beans, crab meat, seaweed salad, pickled ginger and etc. ($14 something)

After you pay you can add sauce, I added Steve's spicy mayo and citrus ponzu. I didn't add enough so the rice was a bit plain to me. I added more when I was half way done. Taste much better with more sauce. It tasted like normal poke in Vancouver but I still think the first poke I've tried was the best so far.

It would be nice if they have a price on their menu.

I may not come back again because it's quite far away from home and I didn't really find anything practically special about it. Expect the guy. =P

Prata Man Review

My friend said their Hainan chicken is good and I've never been there. It's not too big in there and service was good.

I ordered the curry chicken noodle ($8.50) and friend ordered the single portion Hainan chicken ($7.25 - I think this is the old price, maybe add one of two $ to it ) and curry fish ball ($2.50 - same thing).

I wanted to wait for everything to take one picture but each took awhile. The chicken noodle was not bad, enough flavour but can be a tiny bit more spicy. It had a mild coconut taste. There were a few pieces of chicken but not too much. There were also a few bean sprouts.

I tried one of the chicken from my friend, it was alright, very smooth and soft. The rice look very yellow with the chicken oil. The soup, my friend said it's salty with a bit of ginger taste.

Not bad, I think I would come again and try their Hainan chicken next time. Might do take out when parents are on vacation.

Pho Japolo Review

Decided to come before boxing. It's ok size in there, quite a few people eating. Service was alright.

I think I got Number 15? Friend got house special and salad roll (pho $10.95, roll $4.50).

I thought it was ok. Their soup was well flavoured to the point where it's a bit salty but it's ok. Some of the beef were really hard to chew and some noodle were stuck together. I don't remember eating tripe or tendon for my noodle.

My friend commented that their soup isn't that hot so the bean spouts didn't really cook, it still has that raw taste to it.

Don't think I would come again unless if I really can't find anything to eat.

Tramonto Review

Company decided to go to Tramonto this year. It's my second time here.

The room we were in was really pretty. The server was really nice and tried to talk to us. We were waiting for my coworkers to come up and we were starving so we asked for bread and I got a Caesar. Yes, I was drinking. Why so shock? I drank last year.

We had a 3 course meal, I got the sweet carrot veoute, crisp buttermilk chicken and chocolate ganache. Friend got the barnston island green, 6oz angus tenrloin and frozen chestnut panna cotta.

The sweet carrot soup was not bad, it had a slight sweetness to it which was good. I like those little pickled like carrots in it. I don't remember what it tasted like but I liked it but I couldn't spoon them up so I left 2 on the bowl.

The buttermilk chicken was really good, a tiny bit salty but I like it. The corn and purple cabbage or something didn't really have any taste to it so I had to eat it with the chicken. There was a sauce on the side, I tried a bit and I didn't like it so I left it. The biscuit was a bit hard to me and I also had to eat it with the chicken for taste. The chicken was the best thing on that plate. Like my coworker said, "I wish there were more chicken". Me, "I wish the whole plate was filled with chicken". LOL!

The chocolate dessert was also really yummy. Can't go wrong with chocolate right? It was very chocolate, very mousse ish or creamy. Like most chocolate desserts, there will be something sour. There were these clear gel like sauce on the plate, I believe it was raspberry sauce but a clear version. The earl grey ice cream was really good but it was melting like crazy. The meringue was ok but stuck on my teeth.

I tried a bit of my friend's panna cotta, I didn't like it too much, it was very creamy. Don't really taste any chestnut. I tried a candied ginger, so good! Most of my coworkers that got his didn't finish it. They didn't like it and the dessert only took up half of the plate.

Overall, I think my choices were good. They aren't that great but I think I would still come again if someone invite me.

Thanks for the treat, not sure the price but dine out was $40 last year.

Cherry's Food House Review

I saw this place online and I've never been there before so decided to go. The décor was pretty nice, I love wood stuff. The place is ok size, it was empty ish but filled up quite quickly.

The service was not bad, they were nice. They all speak Canto or Mando. The boss or someone asked if we want refill for the side dishes and he brought us this huge rectangular ramekin of potatoes. They also gave us this card at the end for next time, forgot what it was for.

We ordered the cold noodle in slushy soup ($12.95), soupless cold noodle ($12.95), japchae ($16.95) and non spicy seafood soup ($14.95).

The slushy soup cold noodle was not bad but I liked the soupless one better. This one had a tangy taste to it, the noodle was very chewy and it was this opaque brown looking type of noodle, not glass noodle though. They actually put a slice of watermelon in it.

The soupless one had a mild spicy hot chili sauce on it. It wasn't that spicy if 2 of my friends who doesn't eat spicy can handle it. They used this white noodle for it and it was also very chewy. Both noodle didn't have much toppings, only 2 slice of beef, 1 to half an egg, some veggie.

The japchae was not bad, glass noodle was chewy. I thought the flavour was ok but my friend wanted it to be sweeter.

The seafood soup looked very white without the spicy paste. It still had a lot of flavour from the seafood so it was good.

Yes, I would come again. I want to try their army stew but seems quite expensive.

Actually I've been there 3 times including the above. Well, 4 times but one time they were closed (Tuesday).

Second time, my friend was craving so we went again. I ordered the kimchi tofu soup ($14.95) and friend got the seafood pancake ($19.95) and the soupless cold noodle above.

I thought the kimchi soup wasn't as good as the seafood one. It wasn't too spicy which was ok.

I tried a bit of the seafood pancake and I really like it. It was very crispy and tasted good. I can't explain much because I only had a tiny bite.

Third time, my friend wanted to come for birthday celebration so we did. Honestly, I think the server recognize me lol!

We ordered the pancake, soupless cold noodle (above) and the pork bone hot pot ($29.95). I wanted the rice cake hot pot but then we can't adjust the spiciness for that one (friends can't eat spicy). The pork one can be adjusted and we asked for chili pepper on the side.

The pork hot pot was not bad, very flavoured. The pork bones were super soft. I only remember eating a pork bone from that hot pot, I don't remember eating anything else from it.

Overall, not a bad place. I feel like we will come here again someday. They give you a cold noodle card every time you come. Great way to get you coming back again and again lol.

Itofu Review

Finally decided to come try before dinner, yup dessert before dinner, typical me.

Service...I got in there and I feel like I was invisible. That woman didn't say hi or anything. I stood at the cashier for so long and she didn't say hold up or something and just kept doing the previous order. Then she finally decided to come to me. After she was done the first order, she started putting out syrups on tables... What about my order? She didn't say thank you at all. What a nice service...

Anyways, I ordered the Itofu parfait ($8.50). You get to pick 3 toppings with it. I chose pearls, black glutinous rice and grass jelly. I got it as take out and she just gave me a spoon, I wanted to drink it with a straw...

The whole thing was alright. I really like their ginger syrup, very ginger. The tofu pudding was ok, I still think it can have a stronger soy taste. The pearls, some were big and some were small which was cool. I liked the black rice taste, not sure how to describe. The grass jelly were in tiny squares, I was thinking it would be like one big thing, like at bubble tea.

Overall, not bad. I think I'll go back but I don't like that lady...

Heads up, their door is super hard to open and close, I think they made it tighter for the air con, but still...

Pepper Lunch Review

This has been here forever but I've never tried because I see a lot of beef on their menu and I'm not a beef nor rice person. I decided to come before boxing because we are running out of ideas on what to eat.

The place looked interesting compared to what I had in mind. It was a long hall with tables. Anyways, service was not bad. You have to order first then get a seat.

I got their daily Monday special, the hamburger ($9.95). It came with rice, drink, and miso. The portion was quite big for me.

The hamburger didn't have a strong beef taste and it tasted like sausage meat to me. The veggie had no taste so you have to add the sauces in. I added the ramekin sauce on the bean spouts and the honey brown sauce (middle sauce) for the beans and carrots.

I fell in love with that honey brown sauce, so good! It taste a bit like Chinese BBQ sauce with a kick to it but it was also salty not completely sweet. I honestly want to take that sauce home lol!

I normally don't eat rice but I ate the whole bowl up with the sauce.

The miso soup was normal, some tiny tofu and seaweed.

My Fanta was not bad, it didn't taste like water downed soft drink but the ice made it taste like tap water.

Overall, not bad for the price. I love the sauce the most. I would come again but maybe not before boxing. I was so full.

Pho Tam Review

We were trying to find a place to eat, the place I wanted closed down so the next one was this. There are hardly any parking there so might have to park over at the mall, good thing we found one. The place is ok big, tons of people. Service was not bad, they were nice.

I ordered #10, not sure what the guys ordered.

Our stuff came quite fast. The taste was not bad, it's not as salty as other places that I have tried so it didn't give me that thirsty feeling after. The beef were not bad but we wish they would have more toppings.

Yea, I would come back but there are so much pho places around this area so might go try them all first.

Bee Blu XXXVIII

I was bored and decided to check something online. I saw a picture of Mr.6'2 and a gal. When I saw it my heart did sink a bit but from caption, it's just one of those girls from streaming. But you never know, he may have someone already... I miss him. I didn't want to tear but for some reason tears started to drip down. I wonder how he is doing. But I'm just nobody in his eyes now... This time of the year always bring back memories... I hope I can find someone soon that will erase everything for me.

Current feeling (not related to above), I hate it when I give my heart out but people treat it as trash. I won't say I'm a super good person but I don't deserve this crap! And I told you (tian) a million times, don't give me anything that doesn't belong to me! I don't want it! And I hate you Tian! I hate you so much! I hate how you treat good people so bad! I hate you for being unfair! I hate you! I don't care if you torture me for saying that, not like you haven't been torturing me! I HATE YOU SO MUCH!!!

I love my brother, I went into his room and he was talking to me about something and he suddenly said "yea, you have something to say?". Haha! Yes, I do hehe. I normally won't go in unless if I have something to say or if Hun is in there. =)

New Indian Buffet Review

My friend suggested this place so decided to go. I haven't been to an Indian buffet for N years.

The place was ok size and there were quite a few people there eating when we got there and got more crowded. Service was ok.

It was $21.95 per person. I believe there were no time limit but not too sure.

I tried to try as much curry as I can. Some of them I really like and some I don't really like. I can't remember which curry is which but I remember a few. I thought the butter chicken one wasn't that good, maybe it's the way how they made it? My friend liked the green one but I didn't. The rest were not bad. I like the veggie curry one, there were potatoes and zucchini or something in there.

I love vegetable pakora because the batter reminds me of samosa and just very well flavoured with herbs and spices. However, their pakora were a bit too battered, I don't taste any vegetables at all.

I also really like their roti, I like that herb/spice taste, so good. It's almost like eating chips.

I tried their dessert. The fried ring like ones were actually not bad. I tried somewhere else and I didn't like it. The donut like one was ok too but I didn't really like that strong butter flavour that it had. The other rice pudding and other stuff I didn't like as much because it had herbs/spices in it. Just seems a bit strange to me in desserts.

Overall, not bad but I don't think it's worth the price. It's a pretty expensive meal. But it's always good to try new things. No, won't come back.

Flipside Review

I wanted to try this place long ago but last time they were under renovation so we couldn't go. Now they are done reno we can finally go. It was ok big in there and it was so hot. It was empty when we were there, kind of weird.

I didn't really like how they have this dark window thing so the people inside can see you but you can't really see them. It feels like someone is starring at you while you eat... Other than that the service was not bad. When you are done, they can see from the inside so they will come out and get the plates and stuff... And it's CASH ONLY.

Anyways, I got the halo halo monster ($12.98) and my friend got the mango pan de cream ($3.98).

My halo halo was pretty good. Way better than what I had last time at this Filipino restaurant. This one actually had sweet flavour. Now, that's more like a dessert. The red and green jello were sweet. The beans and other stuff tasted so much better. One thing, they had so much cream on top which I didn't like too much. The purple shake had that fake ish ube or taro taste which isn't my favourite thing but it's ok.

The ice cream, I'm not sure what flavour and I remember it said on the menu, it was quite sweet compared to the drink. I was gonna add it into the drink but nah.

The caramel flan was yummy. I always like those. Sweet eggy flavour and it was ok firm.

I tried my friend's mango ice cream and it had that fake mango taste. It remind of the Nestle brand ice cream in Hong Kong.

Overall, I think it was pretty good but a bit pricey. I won't come back again because it's quite far for me and I've tried what I need to try.

Mazazu Crepe Review

I saw their parfait on IG so wanted to try. They don't have much to choose.

I got the oreo one ($7.25) and she said they ran out of "ice balls" and if more oreo is ok. Sure...? How can you run out when it's just during afternoon. You still have until night time...

It was ok, very crunchy with the corn flakes, cereals and oreo. The ice cream was ok. It was quite filling, quite full after eating. The brownie was ok.

No, I don't think I'll go again. I may try their crepe but might not. I'll try crepes in Japan someday.

Element Diner Review

I saw cool pictures online so decided to give it a try. It's ok size in there but some tables are hidden on the side but the waiter always comes and check on us.

The service was interesting. The guy was a bit clumsy to me. He had a nice smile on and very nice, not bad looking lol! However, he got my order wrong and when it's my turn to pay he was gonna give my friends bill to me and he threw my receipt away. Yea, he gave me a very interesting feeling.

Anyways, we ordered the thai style soy braised boneless pork knuckle ($12.99) and the pork belly cheesy udon ($11.99).

My friend's udon came first and I thought it looked not bad. We both thought the soup would be cheesy but there were only cheese on top of the pork belly. I tried a spoonful. The soup was not bad, enough flavour but not the ordinary ramen type of broth, it was pork broth. The udon was good texture. My friend thought it was ok.

They got my order wrong and I was offered teriyaki don or something and the chef or some lady asked if it's ok if I take it. I said no I want what I order but I should have taken the teriyaki because my dish was very very very disappointing. (Yes, I said VERY 3 times)

So my dish finally came when my friend was half way done. Um...ok (the look of the dish). To me, it didn't look very appetizing at all. Looks like normal than normal type of dish. I thought it said Thai style, doesn't seem Thai to me at all. It's more like Taiwanese style... The pork hock was nice and soft but it had no taste what so ever. There was a good amount of rice so it was filling. I like the salty and sour veggie on the side. Other than that I didn't like that dish at all.

Will I come back? Sorry, no!

Bee Blu XXXVII

"When the moon shines the stars will dim. When the clouds cover the moon that's when stars can shine, everything is the same. There will be times when people think they have lost everything but it's actually a big gain. What can be let go of and what can't be let go of. A clear heart will follow after a lost moment. After the pain, it will only bring you a more steady (not sure word) life."

"Life is a miracle, fate will bring two different people together. What do these people leave behind? Happiness or sadness? Enemies or friends? Or simply said by a philosopher that every encounter is a long time no see?" - Don't know, maybe it can be a long time no see from past life?

"Death isnt scary, someone else's death is scary. When you think everything is going well, how would you know accident is just around the corner? I just hope after the bitter, there will be sweet to end it" - I wish too but life has always been bitter for me ever since I'm a big girl.

"Accidents come, no time to say good bye. When fate leaves, the past will only become painful memories. Life is hard, people accept, fight through it because we still have hope in life. There are bad and there will be good. The problem is you have to go through 99 times of bad things to have one good thing happen." Really like this because it's true, 99 bad for 1 good. More bad than good in my life. More like 10000000000000000000000000000000000x bad for 1 good. Life sucks!

"Rest, is to go further. If there is a time where you are tired and can't go on, try to stop and rest, stretch and maybe guess a riddle." I was unhappy about work and felt like the drama was talking to me again. Thanks!

Bee blu, new drama. This song is quite catchy. His other song is good too, post it maybe next week.

"能尋夢 不必心碎  未揭盅 不要流淚
能前望 不必傷過去  分也可再重聚
能留下  不必早退  未結束  不怨疲累
懷自信  我會再尋覓去 我會再投入去
一直一直追

沒法改寫昨天  仍能為未來實踐
夜晚總會白天  終站又變了起點
從未約定時間  從沒有相約地點
但我知你定會再出現 (Will you?)

Chongqing Noodle House Review

I passed by this place a few times but never tried. Decided to try before kickboxing.

It was pretty empty when we were there but there were still a few people the service is ok.

We ordered the pork hock noodle ($9 something).

It was ok size. I thought it had quite a bit of noodle. The noodle were soft, I kind of like it a tiny bit harder but it's all good. The soup tasted interesting to me. It's like lime taste or dish detergent smell. It may be the cilantro which I don't like. My friend said it's the type of pepper that they use.

I really like their pork hock, it's nice and soft. It's well flavoured, it didn't have that interesting soup taste so I'm happy.

No, I don't think I'll come again. The taste isn't really my thing. That's just me though. Their pork hock is really good though. Do they just sell that only? If so I'll go back again. =)

Little Ongpin Review

Decided to come before boxing. I've always wanted to try this place, not really their food but the dessert. Well, I wanted to try their pork hock but I didn't see it on the menu.

The place isn't that big and it was super hot in there. There were few tables with people. There was this one big family eating there. Service was not bad but I thought the wait for our dessert took quite long.

We both ordered the halo halo ($7 something). I thought it was interesting, lots of different flavours. It's not very sweet to me but ok filling. It's like a harder version of shaved ice. The ice cream taste very familiar but I can't describe it. It kind of reminds me of those fake taro taste in bubble tea, not really my favourite. There were jello around it which I thought had no taste. It said there is custard flan, I was expecting a whole piece for that price and not a tiny slice. The custard tasted not bad.

I knew there were beans below, that I liked, soft and sweet. There was this kiwi looking thing that I didn't like. It's harder than a kiwi and it has this sour taste to it. Just not my thing. Other then that, it was ok.

No, don't think I'll come back again. I don't know much about Filipino food, someone I know may but yea. I thought that dessert was quite expensive.

Dai Jang Kum Review

Decided to eat here before kick boxing. It was quite empty when we got there. There were about 2 tables of people there. It's ok big inside and I see different named rooms.

Service, I didn't really like the first guy that was there. He was just too cool and no smile or anything. This other guy that came later was nice, he even looked and said thank you when we were about to leave.

Anyways, we ordered the seafood jambong ($10.95, spicy seafood noodle), dumplings (not sure price) and jajang noodle ($8.95, black bean sauce).

To me, I thought my seafood noodle was not bad, I really like it. The size was quite big, lots of seafood compared to those seafood tofu stew I have had elsewhere. The soup had enough seafood taste. The noodle was nice and soft and it soaked up enough of the soup flavour. I just didn't like how the mussel wasn't open at all and I had to dig them open.

Oh, we both hated that thing under the table. I know there is nothing much they can do because it's part of the BBQ thing but we keep hitting our legs on it. Not much leg space down there.

Yes, I'll come back. I'm actually craving their noodle soup while typing this.

Passion 8 Review

I've always wanted to try this place but never did.

It's ok size inside but quite hot because the sun was shining into the shop even with the blinds down.

They will tell you to find a seat and then when you are ready to order, you can go up to order. They will bring the bingsu to your table.

We got the Mr.Choco Bear ($9.50) and honey berry and cheesecake ($10.50).

They both look very pretty. Taste wise, I thought it wasn't as good as some other places that I have been to before. I thought part of it was lacking some taste. I was hoping they would have more chocolate taste to it. There was only the chocolate powder on top and the chocolate ice cream. The shaved ice wasn't as powdery and it had a milk taste to it. The bottom felt like ice to me but it had a better chocolate flavour at the bottom, maybe they had syrup or something down there?

I tried the honey berry, it was ok. I liked that corn chip thingy on the side.

No, I don't think I will come back. I've had better shaved ice than this.

West Coast Poke Review

I wanted to try the one in Richmond but I was going to Vancouver so why not try that location instead. It's not too big in there but it was ok. Service was ok.

You can make your own bowl or get the one of the four that they thought out for you already. I made my own because I wanted to.

I don't quite remember what I got but I'll try my best. I got regular brown rice bowl ($12.50) with chopped scallop, spicy shoyu, pickled red onion, thai chili, pickled ginger, radish, kimchi cucumber, spicy crab salad, spicy seaweed salad, miso ginger soy and citrus ponzu, and furikake.

The taste was not bad, it got a bit spicy after a few forkful (ate with a fork, they should have spoons...). I think it was spicy from the pickled ginger. The chopped scallop was definitely very chopped up... I didn't really get to try each thing separately but it was good all mixed together.

I liked the other poke place better, maybe because that guy packed mine like a mountain and this one didn't? That other poke, I could taste different flavours which was nice, maybe I didn't mix it?

Hm...not sure if I'll come back. Maybe?

I find poke really expensive... I can buy a top that's on sale with that price. Sigh.
