Yogen Fruz Review

Walked around Oakridge and I was running out of energy so decided to get dessert.

I've actually never tried this before.

We got the large watermelon frozen yogurt.

It wasn't very sweet, tasted like regular non sweet watermelon but it was ok.

Size was ok, enough for 2.

Someone said they serve them very cold and yes, first spoonful was quite cold.

I guess I would come again but nothing I really really wanna try.

Rhinofish Noodle Bar Review

Someone wanted to come here for birthday. It's not very big in there but alright. It was quiet when we went but it got busier.

Service was ok. The girl asked if we were ready super fast, like less than 5 minutes of sitting down... When we wanted the bill, it took awhile because they were getting busy, which was fine.

We ordered the drunken chicken noodle ($14), Taiwanese beef noodle ($14.50) and chicken nuggets ($7.50).

The drunken chicken, the waitress said that it may have a bitter taste. I don't really taste it, it's not as strong as the yellow wine chicken that I had in HK. The soup tasted like herbal soup that my mom makes and I don't really like that. The chicken had a stronger wine taste to me compared to the soup which I like. That's more like drunken chicken. The noodle was a bit soft to me but that's ok. The sundried tomatoes were quite sour. The taro crisps weren't very crispy, I guess because it was on top and the steam made it not crispy? Veggie are veggie. The egg looks marinated but it doesn't have a strong marinated taste.

I tried the beef noodle, the soup was very different from normal beef noodle. Don't know how to describe but not really my thing. The beef were soft and it had a kick to it but someone said can't taste it. The preserved veggie was good, nice and sour.

The chicken nuggets, we got it in the nanjin sauce. They were not as good as other Taiwanese place. The chicken was very soft but not crispy enough in my opinion. Their basil leaf didn't taste like the normal basil, no clue what it was. Someone thought so too and said the chicken can be even softer. The sauce had a tangy taste to it, not really something I like. I thought the sauce would be spicy, which I may prefer better.

The size of noddle was ok for the price but I think the chicken nuggets were a bit pricey for the size. Someone thought it's not bad. I've seen better ones.

Overall, it's ok but don't think I would come again. They don't really have much on their menu and I already tried what I wanted to try.

Roots Cafe Review

Someone finally decided to bring me here after telling me about this place for so long. Thanks for the treat and keeping it a surprise!

It's not very big in there but lots of people were eating and working on things there. It's more of a serve yourself kind of restaurant.

We ordered the butter chicken poutine ($10.95) and the big breakfast ($9.95).

The poutine was pretty unique because it's butter chicken. I like how the fries were still crispy, not like normal poutine where it's soggy. It had a nice spice to it which was good. I like the cheese when it was still hot. It's like mozzarella cheese, since it's like the type they use on pizza, it has the string when pulled. There were a few pieces of chicken. The size was ok big, at least compared to what we got at the shipyard night market.

The big breakfast, the toast was normal to me but it had a nice crisp to it. The bacon were normal. Someone said the sausages were soso. I thought the  baked beans were unique, it was curry flavour. Normally baked beans have this weird ketchup like flavour to it but this was different and not bad.

Overall, I thought it was not bad and we think we will come back again. I still want to try the pull pork poutine.

Welcome Parlour Review

I've wanted to try this when I explore North Vancouver. Finally get to without walking far. It was at the night market.

We got the London fog and salted caramel ($5.50 each).

The London fog tasted like milk tea. It had a hint of something but I'm not sure what it is. It's almost like a spice flavour.

I didn't like someone's salted caramel, it had this milk taste to me which I don't like. Someone said it doesnt taste like salted caramel.

I may want to go to their actual store and see if they have other flavours. The price was ok for ice cream, pretty much the same everywhere else.

Shipyard Night Market

My first time going to this night market. People online said it's a non Asian night market.

It's actually quite small. We thought there weren't much to see. There were a lot of jewelry booths. There aren't much food trucks or booth as the Richmond night market.

All the food were ok expensive. We decided to get the poutine from The Reef ($9), thanks! It wasn't that big for the price. It was ok, very salty to me. The gravy was very different from normal poutine. It had a tangy taste to it. The fries weren't very crispy. It was soggy from the gravy. Someone said they use real cheese? No clue. I made someone eat the biggest cheese curd. I wouldn't get it again. Too pricey.

I thought the night market was just soso. I think the Richmond one was way better. I think I would still go again if someone wants to. But I rather explore around the area since nothing much at the night market.

We saw tons of sushi places. Might try one someday.

Ramen Taka Review

They have a new location and I've never tried so decided to go. They have this happy hour thing on weekdays from 3-5pm so went right after work. Glad we went during happy hour...

The service was ok, they seemed nice.

I ordered the supreme dragon miso ($12.96 +30%) and friend got the flaming dragon ($14.25 +30%).

I was a bit disappointed in the presentation, I thought it would look better or more like their pictures. Taste was ok but can't really remember, I guess it was very normal to me that I don't remember. Their bamboo were all different sizes. I prefer them shorter so it's easier to eat. It wasn't very marinated and had a strong bamboo taste which I didn't really like.

Their cha sui didn't really have any taste to me but friend liked it. The eggs, we both thought it was over cooked, not like semi liquidly type.

Friend thought the flaming one was quite spicy, they actually put a red pepper in it.

Overall, I thought it was just ok. I've had better ramen than that. It's a good idea to go during happy hour because regular price seems a bit of a rip off. Nah, don't think I would come again.

Kita No Donburi Review

We were gonna go for sushi but that place had a 40 minutes wait so we decided to go here.

All rice items. The place is ok size, it was ok busy. The service was alright. Quite stuffy in there.

We got the chicken katsu curry ($10.50) and the chanko don ($11.55).

My curry was not bad. It's not as sweet as normal Japanese curry. It wasn't spicy. The carrots were super soft, it broke into pieces when I was trying to give it to someone. The chicken was soggy from the curry but not bad. I wish the chicken were thicker for the price. There were 3 pieces. There were a lot of rice and I'm not a rice person, it's like a big half of the bowl.

The chanko don was not bad too. The chicken had a sweet taste to it which was nice. I like the mushroom, very mushroom taste. The beef was ok.

Overall I think it was not bad, I would come again but most likely not because I like to try different places.

D'oro Gelato Review

Someone asked if I wanted ice cream, when do I ever say no to ice cream? Thanks!

I've had their ice cream a few times already, I normally go to the one on Robson.

We got 2 scoops ($7 something), pistachio and raspberry.

The raspberry was sour but not crazy sour with some seeds. The pistachio was ok. It did have a pistachio taste but not as strong as what I had last time. There were bites of pistachio in it.

Overall, it was okay but I've had better. I thought they used to be pretty good. Maybe I've tried too many good ice cream. I will still go back.

Au Petit Cafe Review

Someone wanted to take me to this place, thanks! It's not very big in there and it was ok busy. Someone said it's a ma and pa place. Yes, I could tell with the decor. The service was ok, they were nice.

So funny, the man was on hands free and he is always talking. We couldn't tell if he is on the phone or talking to people around him.

Anyways, we ordered the raw and cooked sliced beef and beef balls ($10.50) and the bbq lemongrass chicken ($11.95)

My pho, I thought it was ok. The size was normal. The  beef were just right. I didn't find anything too special about it.

The lemongrass chicken was pretty good, it had a sweet taste to it.

There was a long wait between both bowls. Mine came first and we waited for awhile for someone's to come. The people that came after got their food faster than someone's.

Overall, it's okay but I think I've had better. I don't think I would come again.

Chun Yang Review

Yes, another bubble tea place. It's not big in there but I like how they have these patio kind of area in the front. I really like the chairs and "tables", very cute.

Friend asked what the girl recommends, she said the 2 pictures on the menu, which were honey lemon oolong tea and brown sugar pearls with fresh milk. My friend went with the honey lemon oolong tea. I got the oolong milk tea with pearls (my breakfast, around $6).

My milk tea was ok, it had an ok tea taste to me, that tea bitter. The pearls were a bit tinier than the normal ones I think. Be careful when you drink, my pearls just kind of slip right into my throat, good thing they weren't that big. They were chewy. They actually put a lot of pearls in, like a good 1/3 of my cup. It's good since that's my breakfast, should last me till lunch time.

My friend said the lemon drink was bitter and they recommended it. When my friend poked the straw in, I could smell this orange peel smell, it was so strong. Maybe that's why it's bitter, just too much?

Overall, I think it's not bad but I'm unlikely gonna come back, too many to try.

Nana's Green Tea Review

I've tried their ice cream in Japan but they have their anniversary promo so decided to try it in Vancouver. It was 50% off, better than buying it original price.

When we passed by before dinner the line was very short. After dinner, it was quite long. I guess people went after eating dinner or something. We waited for a bit but don't know how long.

We both got the red bean mochi soft serve. ($7.30 for both, this was the normal price for one). There weren't much to choose from because 2 of them were sold out already.

I don't know why they put my mochi under the red bean. Good thing someone's looked ok.

The ice cream had a bitter tea taste and someone thought it wasn't ice cream ice cream. He was expecting vanilla or something. Oh, you are gonna try so much different food with me kid.

The mochi had no taste at all. The red bean wasn't very sweet, I like it sweeter. The cone was very crispy and had a vanilla or some kind of taste to it. The cone was nice, there weren't any holes where ice cream would melt through.

Overall, it was ok but didn't impress me. I would only try again if they have deals but most likely won't come back because I've tried what I wanted to already.

Sofra Review

I wanted ice cream after dinner because of a deal so decided to eat nearby for dinner. Someone suggested this place and something else. I wanted to try donair because I've never tried it and not sure what it is. Thanks!

Service was soso. They don't ask how things are. When we left she didn't say thank you so I didn't too.

We ordered the beef donair ($13.50) and the chicken kebab ($14.50).

I thought the portion was pretty good for the price. My beef donair had so much beef. The beef was actually quite good. It tasted more like a sausage. Someone said it's like a meat loaf. The salad was ok but I kind of want a bit more dressing. The hummus was alright but it would be nice with more spice or flavour? The yogurt dip, I think it had dill in it? It was tangy and refreshing, not bad. But after a bit I thought it wasn't that great. I dipped the pita in both hummus and yogurt, I think it tasted better with the yogurt.

I tried the chicken and it tasted good. It had a little kick to it. I think it was chicken breast. It didn't have as much as the beef.

Overall I thought it was quite good. I was worried they may have lots of cheese or like something I won't like but no. I would come again but most likely would try other restaurants.

Hon's Wonton House Review

Someone wanted to take me here before the Imax show, thanks! It's not very big in there and I like the décor inside. It was empty when we were there then it got busier. A few people ordered take out.

We ordered 2 wonton noodle ($9 each) and potstickers ($5).

The size of the noodle were ok I guess. Taste, I thought it was lacking. The soup was very light to me. Not flavoured enough for the noodle. The noodle had a good texture though. The wonton were actually quite good, the flavour was just right. Someone said they put a lot of stuff in it. Some places only have 1 shrimp in it.

The potstickers, I thought they weren't brown enough. If it's not brown enough, normally, it's not crispy. Someone didn't like them too much. The taste was ok though, enough flavour. Someone wasn't sure what those yellow bites were in the vinegar, I believe they were ginger? I thought the vinegar was spicy.

Overall, it was ok but I don't think I would come back. It wasn't OMG to me.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken Review

I wasn't planning to try this place because I've been to another one before and it's not a OMG thing to me. However, I like to try every restaurant if possible and I was running out of places to try so why not. It's ok size in there. It was all full when we got there.

The first thing I realized when I got in, there are nothing on their menu, all say "coming soon". It was their soft opening so there are nothing at all. They only have regular big chicken, chicken nuggets, fries, plum sweet fries or something.

We both got the regular large chicken ($10.99), I mean what else can we get as our dinner? They gave out free pop for soft opening. Honestly, for that price I think they should include a drink even if it's not soft opening.

The chicken, yes, indeed very big. It was bigger than my friend's face. Very hot, ok crispy, the chicken was tender. First few bites had "juice" coming out so be careful not to burn yourself. There isn't really any flavour but it wasn't bland. I got the spicy one but it's not really spicy. My friend got the plum one, it had a sweet flavour.

One thing I dislike, it has a bone inside. The other place I've been doesn't have a bone. It's so hard to eat with a bone. I took the other half home because I don't know how to eat the bone part in public.

Overall, I thought it was soso only. It's quite expensive for a piece of chicken. No, I don't think I would come back again, nothing else I really want to try.

So Hyang Review

This has been on my list for awhile but I haven't tried yet and someone suggested this place. Thanks!

When we got there it was packed, we had to wait a bit. We looked at the menu while we waited and they asked us if we are ready to order before giving us the table. It's good, less time wasted by waiting.

The service was good. The seats were a bit funny. I sat on the couch ones and I felt like I was sinking. Someone was sitting on the hard ones so it felt like I had to look up all the time. I see other tables like that too. Very interesting.

Anyways, we got the 2 different cold noodles ($10.99 each). One in a slush soup and the other one was soupless with a spicy sauce.

The waitress asked if we need to cut the noodle because it's a bit sticky so we let her. From previous Korean restaurants, I didn't have to get my noodles cut so I was a bit confused. I understand why she suggested to cut it because it was hard to separate it, it's like stuck together. I asked for bowls but she never got us any. Someone had to ask again.

The slush soup one, I prefer that one better because it wasn't as dry and had flavour. I tried the slush and it had a salty taste to it then tangy and then a water no taste. The soup itself is a bit sourish which was nice for a cold noodle. The noodle was chewy. The radish was sour which I like but I wish the cucumber was sour too. There was half an egg and 2 slices of beef.

The soupless one was super hard to stir and separate. We added the spicy sauce ourselves and part of it didn't have any flavour and part of it was really spicy. To me, it was a bit dry so I added like 3 spoonfuls of the tangy soup to it. It had the same toppings as the other one.

I quite like the side dishes. They had yam and potatoes, not just potatoes, so good.  The fish cake was good too, love fish cake. The bean sprouts here tasted better, had more flavour to me. Someone thought the kimchi was too spicy, I thought it was ok.

Overall, it's ok I guess. The size was ok but presentation lacked a bit. Yes, I would come back again because I want to try their hot pot thing, maybe fall or winter. Or I can just try it somewhere else.

Fiordilatte Gelateria and Caffe Review

Saw this place online and decided to try since we are here and I hardly come here. I saw online they have pistachio ice cream.

We got the large size for $7.50. I like how they let you choose up to 3 flavours because most places charge by scoops.

We got the pistachio, coffee and chocolate.

The pistachio is so good! Someone said it's very pistachio but without that actual nutty taste. I thought all the flavours were very good. The chocolate and coffee were very chocolate and coffee to me too. Someone thought the coffee was more like a latte and not coffee.

Overall, not bad but I think I have tried what I wanted to try. I only like to try different ice cream places.

Green and Oak Review

We were around Burnaby Height so decided to try this place. I thought the pictures looked ok. It's ok size in there. The decor looked nice. Someone thought the tables looked like school ones.

Service was ok I guess.

We ordered the Hainanese chicken laksa with mixed noodle ($10.95) and the curry chicken rice ($10.95).

The laksa looked nice and it was ok size.  The taste was not bad, had a little kick but not overly spicy. A light coconut taste which I like. The chicken was very soft but they gave me so many chicken breast. I liked the Chinese noodle more than the vermicelli. I wish they have flat rice noodle, I found like 3 small pieces. There were 2 tofu puffs, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and a fish ball.

I tried a curry chicken and thought it was quite good. Very coconut and well flavoured. The chicken was very soft.

Overall, I think it was not bad. No, don't think I'll try again, too many new places to try.
