Happy Day Cafe Review

Saw this new HK style restaurant and wanted to try.

Service was ok. There were so many people and the lady asked if we want to share table with others, pretty good feel. No thanks, good feel? I find it awkward sharing a table with strangers, can'treally talk. She said maybe 20 minutes but we got a table pretty quick.

I saw ok deals for their lunch. Their dinner meal looked so expensive but the portion was huge!

We decided to just share and got the stir fried beef noodle ($15.95) that I always crave. There were flavoured ones but we got the normal one.

To me it tasted ok. Maybe I like salty dishes so I thought it was lacking some taste. There were a lot of noodle and beef. Some places give you more garnish than the noodle. Someone thought the amount of oil they used was good. Some places use a lot of oil.

Yes, I think I would come back again but maybe for their lunch.

Heads up, cash or debit only... They should change that because how are people gonna pay the lobster dinner if they don't have cash or debit?

Kongee Dinesty Review

The crazy wind ruined someone's plan so we decided to go here. It's very Chinese restaurant style in there but service was good. The aunties seem nice.

We both got a congee that comes with a soy drink ($9.98) and the sweet Chinese donut ($3.98).

Their congee is not bad. Enough flavour, I got black pepper base for mine but I thought it could be stronger. The fish paste was a bit lighter in taste to me but very soft and I could taste the fruit peel taste. The chicken was a bit harder to bite but ok. I like the preserved veggie and radish in the congee.

The sweet Chinese donut was a bit hard for me. I remember eating them before, they were crispier.

Their soy milk was a bit watered down for me. I like it with stronger soy bean flavour or more sweet.

That was a lot of food. We didn't need to order the side. That congee was ok big.

Overall, not bad and I think I would come back again. Thanks for the treat!

Nero Belgain Waffle Review

I haven't try this before so decided to go. It's not too big in there. You order, take a seat and someone will bring the food to your table.

You get to choose 2 types of waffle, brussel or liege.

I got the mocha brussel ($9.25) and friend got the all things chocolate brussel ($9.25).

It was ok size, looked pretty. The mocha cream wasn't sweet but had a light coffee taste to it. I like the chocolate drizzle on top, gives it a sweetness.

The waffle wasn't really crispy to me. maybe the cream made it soggy?

The ice cream was good.

I'm not sure if I would come back again. Most likely no.

Jinya Review

Continuing my ramen adventure. I've seen this place for awhile but have never tried. It's almost pub like in there. Lots of high bar chairs.

Service was not bad. The guy at the bar was quite nice and he was very muscular lol.

I ordered sprouting up ramen ($17.80) and friend got the tonkotsu spicy ($16.30).

The size is ok I guess? The taste is not bad, definitely enough flavour. The noodle were good texture. The chasiu was quite soft and some fat meat. The brussel sprout was a bit bitter but I think it's normal because it was a bit burnt.

Mine isn't spicy but feels a bit spicy, maybe the oil?

Overall, it's not bad but I wouldn't go again because it is quite pricey and I have tried what I need to already. After tax and tips, it's like $21...

Newton Beef Noodle Review

Came here for a friend's birthday. Online reviews complained about their service and yes I see why so many complaints. My friend called the day before to make a reservation but they never asked for her name or number. When my other friend got to the restaurant and told them about the reservation she said she doesn't know. They didn't even offer her to sit.

The whole time the waitress was back facing us and my friend put up her hand, the waitress saw but ignored. My other friend put her hand up as well. That waitress went to serve another table first and ignored us. We asked for tea and she only poured a bit for one friend and another friend got a full cup. Very interesting.

My friend and I got our food packed but she only gave a bag to me but not my type friend. My friend asked for it and she gave mine to my friend. We were all like it's mine. Then she put the bag on top of my container but the bag touched the oily dish. Like really?

Anyways, onto the food. We ordered these beef noodle, spicy and non spicy. I got their popcorn chicken noodle aka salty peppery fried chicken. I think all the noodles were $11 ish. I guess the size was ok for the price? My noodle had like no taste, just a light sesame oil taste. Add some salt please! My friends helped me ask for spicy sauce. It still had no taste but spicy. I guess they didnt make the noodle salty because the chicken was salty. But still, that's why both dishes are separated for a reason.

The popcorn chicken was not bad though, it had a nice flavour. My friends thought their noodle was not bad too.

The dumplings were ok, had a nice flavour. The wrapper had an ok texture, not too thick. When I ate it, it was cold so the soup wasn't really liquidy.

Overall, their food is ok but the service is definitely not ok. I don't think I will ever go again. This is my first and last time.

Raijin Ramen Review

I decided to bring someone here as a reward. I wanted to try this place. At first I saw their lobster ramen but I don't know how to eat lobster and it's limited.

Service was not bad. More and more people came in.

I got the tsuke-men ($13.50) and someone got the shoyu ramen I think ($11.50).

I added spicy lover (spicy paprika) to mine. My ramen was a dip type or ramen, I got tired of dipping so I just dumped the ramen in and ate from it. Someone said the dip was not bad, has a tangy taste. I didn't taste the tangy but it has this fish (maybe bonito) taste to it. There were few pieces of fat meat in it which I like. The dip made my mouth very "sticky" because of the fat meat (collagen). I thought the dip had enough flavour and it wasn't too too spicy for me.

The ramen had an ok texture, not too soft or hard. It was kind of stuck together so I had to break it apart. The egg had a very light marinated taste and the yolk was still okay liquidy. The chasiu was very soft and it's lightly flavoured.

I got their Friday deal so I also got a small side for $1 more. We got he takoyaki. It was ok flavoured, had a soft centre. There was octopus inside. Someone said it tastes better than night market.

Yes, I would go back again but I'm most likely gonna continue my ramen tour. =) I was actually very full from this meal. I even shared it with someone.

Wildtale Review

I heard about this place from someone and I saw a happy hour menu and decided to go with a friend. It's ok size in there, I like the wood kind of décor.

Service was ok ish. Took them so long to notice us. I kind of wish they would let people know that if it's happy hour, you can only sit at certain places before they seat us. I only knew about it when I tried to ask for a happy hour menu. We had to change table and ate at the patio. The guy was nice but my friend didn't like him.

We ordered the coconut fried shrimp ($6.75), lobster rolls ($5.75 each), a grilled oyster ($3.25) and he suggested tacos ($6.50).

When each dish came... I was like what the... They were very small portion, like super small. I honestly think they can make it bigger for that price.

The tacos, I thought it had no taste. There is a sauce but it didn't make much difference unless if I poured it all in. I think there was a little kick to it but it would be nice if it had more. The taco looked nice though. It was quite messy eating it.

Lobster roll, rip off. It was so tiny and it's so expensive for one! And lobster...where? There were such little filling. It had no taste and it was so dry.

Shrimps, what is this??? It's so tiny! I think they cut the shrimp in half for each skewer. Like seriously? It taste ok but that is so little for the price. That's like $1 per skewer!

Not sure about the oyster, I don't eat.

Overall, super duper disappointed! I expected much better food and portion for that price and it's downtown yo. West Oak's happy hour is so much more worth it! I think you know my answer already... No, I'm not coming back.

Com Vietnamese Review

Wanted to try this place before it was open. Saw a friend there and he said it's like fine dining here and recommended a few dishes that he thought were good.

Service was ok, that guy tried to sell us this daily special like 3 times and he also gave us a dessert menu after. We rejected it haha.

We ordered 2 bun bo hue ($14.75 each) and pho saigon ($14).

My noodle was not bad. It's a spicy beef broth so had a nice kick to the noodle. Friend thought it was salty. The noodle was very different from normal pho. It's like some Chinese round noodle instead of the flat rice noodle. It actually reminds me of the Taiwanese beef noodle. There were maybe like 4 to 5 slices of beef. They were ok lean to me. There was also one fishball slice in there.

Friend's saigon looks like a normal pho.

Their dish of add on was a bit different compared to other pho places. There were these brown thin slice of thing. Friend asked waiter and he said something but don't remember. To me it had a melon fresh taste to it.

Not too sure if I would come again. Not really sure what else I want to try.

There aren't many parking and super tight spots.

Yuu Tapas Review

My third time here, someone wanted to eat at this mall and let me pick which restaurant. I picked this because I wanted to try one of their dish. It was ok busy in there during dinner time.

Service was ok, no-one came to us, had to signal them. When someone asked for the bill, I turned and looked at them, they were zoned out...

I decided to try this squid ink ramen ($13.95) and someone got the stir fry veggie with beef ($15.95).

I was excited about my dish but when it came... it's tinier than I thought... The dish had nothing except noodle, a bunch of onion and some grounded pork which weren't a lot. It was so not ramen, it smells and taste like chow mein! Chow mein had that "soap water" smell and taste. There weren't much meat at all which was quite sad. $13 something for just noodle... At least add some squid.

Someone said the stir fry was good but there were a lot of cabbage. The beef did taste good.

I was definitely disappointed with my dish. I expected something better. I guess I would still come back, their other dishes are ok.

Oh, my lips did get black and the black meat were stuck in between my teeth...so embarrassing and someone didn't tell me. Thanks for the treat!
