Sushi Well Review

I found this place and thought it sounds familiar and when I saw pictures I was happy. I actually wanted to try this place before in Surrey but I think they closed.

I wanted to try their pink (but looks purple) rice. It was ok size in there. The service was good, they kept asking if everything is ok or if we need tea. Not sure why the girl asked if it's our first time there when I paid. And talked about their pink rice. Shouldn't they tell us about it when they sit us?

We ordered the cali combo ($10.55), okinomi roll ($11.95) and the teriyaki beef ($9.99).

The okonomi roll was good. It was crispy, they also put a layer of bacon that wraps around the sushi. The inside was like a cali roll filling which I like. The top, I think it was mashed up salmon or something, it was spicy but not crazy spicy. It was really good.

The cali combo, I thought it wasn't as much as I thought it would be. I think their double combo was more worth it, I saw tons of sushi for that one. We both really like the cali rolls, simple and good.

The teriyaki beef was ok but I rather order another sushi roll than that. But someone wanted it so oh well. The beef were good, had a beef taste to it and the veggie had no taste. They should at least add some salt or something to the veggie. Stirring it all together tasted a bit better.

Overall, not bad and I would come again. There are some other rolls I would try.

Yu Xiang Yuan Review

Someone decided to go here for dinner, thanks! It's not very big in there and ok busy. It looks a little old or run down. The service was soso. I don't know if it's because we spoke English but they didn't seem very very nice.

We ordered their signature fried noodle with pork and cutting noodle ($12.95) and their cold noodle ($10.95).

Let's talk about the cold noodle first because we both liked that one more. It was in this sesame or peanut soup which was quite good. The whole bowl was very flavoured. The thin slices of beef were also flavoured well with the soup taste. Cucumber were very fresh cucumber taste. The noodle were not thick or thin, every bite of noodle had enough flavoured. They were very long so it was impossible to split.

However, the fried noodle one was a bit disappointing. We thought it was on the bland side. Someone said the noodle was still good although lacking something. The noodle was different ish size and can tell it's hand made and hand cut. Some were ok thick so seems like I was eating a bunch of flour. I ate one broccoli and it had a bitter taste to it. The pork was ok.

Overall, half half, we would come back again for their cold noodle.

Qianwei Kitchen + Yougo Chicken Review

Someone decided to go to food court since the restaurant we wanted to go to closed down.

We got the snail noodle from Qianwei and chicken nuggets rice from Yougo.

The snail noodle, when the gal handed over to me, I thought it had this stinky smell to it, I think it's the bamboo smell. It was ok spicy with the preserved veggies. The bamboo were just bamboo, stinky smell to it. The snails were kinda hard to me, it's almost like eating squid. The green preserved veggie was my favourite. There were these small green beans and tiny yellow bamboo like stuff. The bean was spicy, the yellow ones were sour. The cabbage were sour and were good. I really like the noodle, had enough flavour to it. The soup, we both thought it was spicy but without the spicy oil part, it's very plain with enough flavour.

The chicken nuggets rice, best thing are the nuggets. The batter was very thin, lots of chicken, very juicy and well flavoured. It was very good. Someone said it's like one of the best chicken nugget places. I wonder if they sell the chicken nuggets only.

Overall, not bad but food court isn't that cheap nowadays. It's ok expensive. I would try them again.

Japadog Review

Funny how both of us has never tried Japadog before. We decided to go try, thanks!

It was ok size in there, not as crowded as last time when we were there.

We got okonomi, make it a meal ($7.35+$4.45) and the tonkasu ($6.45).

We had choices for the fries, we picked butter and shoyu. It's like those shake shake fries in HK McD. The fries had enough flavour on its own, salty. There were skinny fries like McD but tasted better.

My tonkasu looked burnt and the meat looked a bit small, a bit harder to bit, not crispy. Flavour was ok but can be better.

I liked the okonomi more because it had my favourite type of sausage inside and had way better flavour than tonkasu.

Pop had a tap water taste to it.

Overall, we thought it was just an expensive hot dog. Not sure about going back or not, most likely not.

G8 Taiwan Kitchen Review

We were trying to find a place and eat and someone was craving Taiwanese and saw this place on there. I wanted to take someone here before, always end up going to places that I want to try.

It's not very big in there. It gets busy and quiet from time to time, there were a few take outs. The lady was nice. They only take cash or debit.

We ordered the pork belly with rice and salty peppery chicken with rice. ($9.95 each).

When my pork belly came, I thought it was a bit small, there were only 4 pieces of fat meat. Not enough meat for me lol. There were quite a bit of rice and I like the preserved veggies on the side, so good. The pork belly was not bad. Vey soft and had enough flavour.

The salty peppery chicken bowl looked better than the pork belly, at least they filled the whole bowl up with chicken. The chicken was crispy and still juicy, very good. It also had the preserved veggies on the side. The basil was crispy too. We went to another place which was expensive and not as good.

Overall, not bad, we would come back again. I would suggest to get the chicken instead of the pork, feels like it's more worth it.

Menya Raizo Review

I saw this place online with an anniversary special so went with someone, thanks! Their deal was first 25 customer is free and then the rest is 50% off. We only got 50% off since there were lots of people when we got there. We waited for a while, maybe an hour or so. I've actually taken someone to their sister company before.

It was ok size in there, the staff were nice. One girl rushed out of the kitchen or staff place and ran into me after I walked out from washroom.

We got the Umami shoyu with half chicken and pork and Gyokai shoyu with pork ($11.50 +50% each).

My gyokai was not bad. At first I thought it lacked flavour but it was actually ok near the end, I guess it soaked up more of the soup flavour. The broth had a Chinese mushroom taste to me which was nice. Their pork was not bad, very soft and enough fat, ok flavoured. I didn't like these little green clover like stuff, they tasted very grassy to me. Bean sprouts were ok. The ramen texture was just right and our ramen noodle were different. Mine was more wavy and the umami one was more straight and looked a bit thinner.

I thought the broth for umami was better, more flavoured. Someone liked that one more too. We don't recommend getting the chicken as topping unless if you like chicken breast. We both think the pork was better. Nothing special to the chicken but it was very soft and not hard or hard to eat.

We both thought their eggs were different. It had a chewier texture to it and the yolk was more jelly to me. It's not bad though.

Overall, not bad for the promo price. I would think it's a tiny bit pricey if it was regular price just because there weren't much toppings. They have a lot of promo, first time, certain percent off, second time, another percent off and then third time is 50% off. Some people got more toppings and filled it up to the top with that 50% off.

Nishi Sushi Review

I found this place to try before the street party. It's very small in there, good thing there were hardly anyone in there. The service was good, the girl was very nice.

We ordered blueberry mango roll ($8.95), popcorn roll ($10.95) and crazy boy roll ($5.95).

At first I said no to blueberry mango because it sounds funny but someone wanted to try so I ok it. To our surprise, it was actually quite good. It was very sweet, I've never had sweet sushi before. There were mango inside and some blueberry sauce. I think it's a must try if people ever go.

The crazy boy roll was good. It's a deep fried California roll. The sauce made it flavourful, it had a little kick to it. It was crispy.

The popcorn roll wasn't as good but still ok. Someone thought it wasn't as good as the other ones and they put so much effort in it. We thought it looked nice. It was lacking in flavour but I didn't dip soy sauce. It had a little kick to it which I like. The toppings were crispy. I guess it lacked in taste because it was fried and they didn't want to put too much sauce on top or it will turn soggy. It was still good.

Overall, I thought it was quite good but I wish the size was bigger. The size was like normal sushi restaurant sizes. Yes, I would go again.

Sip Bowl La Main Review

Friend wanted to try this place so decided to go. It's not very big inside and I like the decor and the wood furniture.

The service was not bad. But when she asked seperate bill or not, we said split. And she just split the total into 3, like wtf? That is so not seperate...

We ordered 3 noodles ($12.99 and 2 at $13.99 each). Friends got 2 bottled drinks ($3.97), sour plum and orange.

My beef noodle was not bad. I got the thickest noodle, 25mm. I was afraid that it may have a powder taste to it but it didn't. The taste of the soup was well flavoured and gave enough taste to the plain noodle. I did have some trouble eating it because it was thick. It was quite filling too.

The beef had enough flavour but friend thought it was salty. The taste and texture reminds me of the pork feet ginger. The texture was quite hard, maybe overcooked?

The radish were thin but soaked up the soup flavour so it was good.

Overall I think it was not bad. I would come back but most likely not.

Oh and if their big tables are all taken and you have a party of 3 or more, you are asked to sit in seperate tables. We were thinking why can't they move the tables together. We have no clue but I'm sure they have their reason.

Richmond Night Market 2019

Someone wanted to come on Canada Day thinking it may be less busy since people are probably partying somewhere else. Which was true, it wasn't very packed. Online it said they are giving out coke and Cola sunglasses for first 200 people. When we paid, they said it's for first 200 groups. Seriously??? If we knew, we would just pay separately, oh well, maybe next year? It was quite expensive to get in, it increases every year.

There were a bit more food tents this year but nothing really special about it. The prices were crazy expensive too.

We saw the nori taco place at nori express and wanted to try. It was definitely different. It cost $7, which was pricey but also bigger than normal taco places. Basically, it's a deep fried seaweed with sushi toppings. We got the California one, my favourite. It was kind of crispy. My first bit was spicy which I really like but the rest wasn't spicy. I guess it came from the previous order because they ordered spicy salmon I think. That kick was nice though. They should totally make a spicy California. It's like a California roll in a seaweed taco, same favour, it was good.

Next we tried the fried watermelon from 2 sweet guys. It was $3.50, ok expensive as well. It was unique, I've never tried fried watermelon. They put a bunch of icing sugar and strawberry sauce on top. We realized why that was necessary. It's because it had no sweetness to the watermelon. The icing sugar helped a bite but not really. It was also quite messy to eat, good thing someone feed me haha! The bottom middle part is very hard to eat. The first bite was ok crispy I guess? I thought it would be nice if they cut it into piece and fried them would be a good idea. Easier to eat. Someone said but a whole piece looks bigger, I guess? We thought they was more of a try once and never again.

Lastly, we tried the deep fried chicken from chicking. We got the honey garlic soy, couple size ($10). It was really good. It had enough flavour. The chicken was very tender and juicy. Doesn't have a thick batter and it was crispy. That was probably the best $10 that we spent at the night market, so sad.

The best thing, someone got me a balloon that I've wanted since last year!!! The clear balloon with bear and lights up! $13 though, definitely pricey and surprised. Very happy! Thanks!

No, I will not go back again this year, maybe next year?

54th Ave Cafe Review

Someone decided to take me here. It was ok size in there, not a lot of people. Service was not bad. Thanks!

We ordered the shrimp paste pan fried beef noodle ($14.75) and chicken with lychee ($16.95).

The chicken lychee was not bad. We were wondering what it was and thinking if it would taste weird. It's like fried chicken with a sweet and sour sauce. It's not as sour as sour and sweet pork. It was lighter so a bit easier on the stomach. The lychee was not bad, quite fresh tasting, very lychee. The chicken wasn't very crunchy, I guess the sauce made it soggy.

The beef noodle, I thought it could be more flavourful. It had a very light shrimp paste taste to it. I guess they didn't want to put too much or it would be too salty. The beef were very soft but with some tendon so some were hard to chew. The rice noodle were normal texture.

Overall, not bad, the size was ok for the price. I don't think I would come back again. If I do, I'll probably get their noodle.
